THE MAKEUP EDIT

Everyday makeup update

I’m not great with titles but hopefully, The Makeup Edit will evolve into a new in makeup post I want to share with you on a regular basis. It’ll be a combination of new discoveries and also incredible re-discoveries as I grow to have a very different approach to makeup shopping. Given my large collection, I tend to really put some thought before buying any new releases. Re-discovering older pieces is always fun. I really love my collection and I’m always mindful that I don’t use it enough. So welcome to the first makeup bag update. I hope you’ll enjoy!

All about that base

Becca First Light Priming Filter | £32.00 | POST

Becca’s primer has dominated my routine lately. It gives the most subtle glow! It’s moisturizing and sits well on the skin. I always allow it to fully sink in (2-5 mins) before following up with a foundation. I find it gives me more glowing products a good base that even extends a makeup wear by an hour or so. The slightly odd purple tone works well for dull skin too. I feel this will work for both dry to combination types. It’s my most used primer lately & I’m glad I was able to test it in the deluxe sample size.

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue* | £27.00 | POST

This light base gives a lovely light coverage and conceals all the redness. It just gives my skin that ‘I woke up like this’ radiant finish. I apply it generously with my fingers first building up a coverage ever so slightly and then finish with a damp beauty blender. It glides on over the Becca primer and sits well for a good 8 hours before going more glowing. I find the shine to be easily dealt with my Blotterazzi. This is my 3rd or 4th packaging and I absolutely love it. If you’re pale and pink then Opal is the shade for you! You can use it on its own or under a powder foundation. I love Bare Minerals Bare Pro for days when I want to look fresh and not cakey, but my skin needs a bit of coverage!

Glowing base for dry skin

Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear | £5.18 |POST

For the last week or so I swapped my well-loved Tarte Shape Tape for this little guy. I used to love it so much and now I remember why. Ok, don’t get me wrong it’s nowhere as good as Tarte but it’s a decent medium-high coverage concealer. It works well under the eyes, but I wish they released a shade that’s even lighter. This one’s a little yellow in tone and light enough, but I can’t highlight with it. It doesn’t crease, it wears all day, so I really can’t be picky especially given this is 1/5th of the price!

Makeup Revolution Lace Baking Powder | £5.00

Ok, this might not have been the love from the first use, but it’s a love nevertheless. The shade is very porcelain like and even gives a little coverage. It’s definitely not transparent and aimed at pale beauties. I don’t think it’s overly brightening for under the eyes but the powder is super finely milled and sets my makeup well. It doesn’t sit on top of dry bits or goes cakey over the time it’s worn. I really enjoy using it and it’s such a great alternative to my RCMA powder! It’s available both in Superdrug or on Tam Beauty, so definitely easier to get your paws on then the ever sold out RCMA one!

Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter in Champagne

I knew I had to try it the moment it launched and it didn’t disappoint. It gives the most beautiful beige/pink/champagne glow to the skin. I love applying it by patting it on the top of my cheekbones before I set my makeup with powder. It’s so natural yet gives an incredible glow. It’s also great to use as a base for other powder highlighter but for daytime, I tend to stick with just one. I don’t know how it compares to CoverFX drops, but I’d love to try them to see for myself! Brilliant for the price & I highly recommend you try it if you’re into liquids & on the budget!

Doll up princess

Huda Beauty Desert Dusk | £56.00 | POST

Aaah I love it. The shades are so pretty and daytime makeup just does itself in the morning. The formula makes blending almost seamless, which saves me so much time in the morning. The possibilities are endless with so many shades to play with and I end up wearing a different look almost every day. It’s definitely pricey, but worth it in my opinion. Is it something you need? Perhaps not, but I’m glad I’ve gotten it because it has given my ABH Modern Renaissance & TF Sweet Peach palettes a little break (judging by the use - they needed it!). If you’re on the lookout for a high-quality eyeshadow palette with all the warm tones you’ll ever need, this is the one for you!

Doll up face everyday

Wunderbrow Eyebrow Gel | £19.95

The cult brow product has been in my collection for quite some time but only recently have I been using it every day. The shade is perfect and gives me the most natural look. I apply it with an angled brush for precision and the brush applicator to pack up more product, then brush off the excess and voila. Whilst I can’t comment that it lasts for days because I remove it daily when cleansing (why wouldn’t you???!! Gross lol) but I can certainly vouch for its longevity. It’s not as pigmented as a pomade, which makes it perfect for everyday use. Quite pricey, but you get a lot of product, so definitely worth it!

Bourjois Rouge Laque in Totes Nude | £8.99

Other than Lancome Matte Shakers, my favourite lip product of 2017. This year I have gone off the matte liquid lipsticks a little and chose more comfortable formulas with a little shine to them. Given I still want my lips to last well, Bourjois does just that. It applies like a dream with one coat giving a sheer finish, buildable to opaque in two coats. What I love about it isn’t just the wear time (good 4-5 hours) but also ability to top it up without the product being almost crusty afterward like with some other liquid lipstick formulas. I love this shade for every day too. It’s understated, little rosy and perfect for day to day. I already bought an orange-red shade but I’m tempted by others!

  6. I'm the same, have reached out a point where I just want to use up my makeup products without buying something new every month. Granted, I'm still tempted by new releases but I'm buying much less these days! x
