THE MAKEUP EDIT #4

The Makeup Edit

New in makeup

I’ve been testing a lot of new makeup lately and want to share with you some recent gems that quickly became staples in my daily routine. From drugstore to luxury, there’s a great mix of products that will suit any budget.

I count myself so lucky to sometimes be gifted incredible makeup and tools & my ultimate find has been this incredible Brushworks X-Luxx Large Oval Brush in 08*. You all know by now my huge love of either Sigma F80 or Beauty Blender for foundation application so it may shock you to find out that both have been replaced by this new favourite. I love the ease of application & the density of bristles ensures you won’t lose out on coverage! It’s brilliant & I can’t wait to try more of the range.

What’s a foundation brush without a great base? I've recently discovered the brand new IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Illumination with SPF 50+ and I’m a convert. High coverage and glowing finish is my idea of a perfect base, so when it also gives you a high SPF, you know it’ll be a keeper. I’ve got mine through Beautylish and I can’t recommend shopping there enough! An easy way to get hold of hard to get brands without having to worry about the postage. What’s annoying me a little is the tube which looks almost empty? I’m sure there’s full 32ml as promised, but why overpackage something so badly? The shade range is also far from ideal and sadly Fair is slightly too dark for me, but I’m making it work.

The perfect full coverage base duo

To add even more dewiness to my base, I’ve been loving L’Oreal Glow Mon Amour in Champagne - golden champagne which is ultra light in texture, doesn’t dry too quickly and blends in easily with foundation. If the glow is what you’re after and you’re looking for something that doesn’t break the bank, stop by your local Boots or Superdrug. If you can’t find it there, L’Oreal’s new range is now available through Look Fantastic which is where I purchased it from.

Moving along to contour/highlight combo, I’ve finally given in and gotten the cult Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow duo. I don’t know why I’ve waited so long, as it’s brilliant! The packaging is stunning, the mirror included superb quality and both powders apply beautifully and blend easily. The contour shade is light, neutral to cool & gives the most natural shade. I’m yet to properly try the highlighter, so I’ll have to report back but swatches look so lovely! I've got mine through Feel Unique (linked above) as Charlotte Tilbury is my chosen brand for their Platinum promo so I get 10% off but you can also get it via Charlotte Tilbury UK or Cult Beauty.

Are these the best drugstore highlighting drops?

I’ve recently become one of Pixi Beauty UK ambassadors and in my very generous welcome package, I received this MatteLast Liquid Lipstick in Really Rose*. Ideal every day rose shade goes on smoothly and doesn’t look too matte on the lips. Somehow it plumps them & sits comfortably for 6+ hours. Afterwards, it gradually rubs off but does it in an unsuspecting way. Easy to top up during the day and won’t dry your lips too much. I’d say 6 hours is a good time to give them a bit of balm, let it sink in and then reapply. You can also pick these up from Asos, Look Fantastic & M&S Beauty Hall.

Back in the drugstore, I recently picked up the new Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara on the recommendation from Jasmine from Jasmine Talks Beauty. I’m glad that I did, because it’s as good as my favourite L’Oreal Paradise, so now I have two mascaras I like at the same time. If you’ve been a reader for a while you know how rarely I talk mascaras as barely any won’t smudge on me. This one’s great and smudges only slightly plus it’s a little cheaper than the Paradise Mascara which is always a plus!
