KARL LAGERFELD + MODELCO: BRINGING DESIGNER CHIC TO CULT BEAUTY + GIFT WITH PURCHASE

Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo makeup collection review

Cult Beauty’s known to be the house for many high-end brands so I could see no better place to launch ModelCo’s new luxury collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld. The novelty chic packaging features self-brand obsessed designer and can be found on Karl’s other collabs and self-launched designs. The collection features stunning brushes, beautifully crafted packaging and surprisingly good formulas. I usually stay away from designer/celebrity collaborations as I never find them to be more than novelty/ collectables so how does Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo collection fares? Grab a cuppa and let's get real.

What’s included in the collection?

The collection features matte liquid lipsticks and lip glosses, eyeshadow palettes, fibre mascara set, beauty accessories such as heated eyelash curler and brush set, eyeshadow palettes, highlighters, glitters and more. Gift sets are also well thought off and would make for a perfect present to any beauty or Karl obsessed enthusiast.

Prices

Starting at around £14 (not including stickers available for £7) the single products, palettes & brush sets go up to £48 a pop, with makeup sets up to £150, it’s not what you’d expect ModelCo price point to be. Do you pay for upgraded formulas or simply Karl’s brand? I think a little bit of both. I’ve tried ModelCo before but I prefer the formulas in this collection.

Blogger’s pack

I’ve been kindly sent few bits by Cult Beauty PR such as the lip balm, liquid lipstick & gloss, Karl Buki brush - some already featured on the blog here - fibre mascara set, a couple of eyeliners and stickers. I can’t say I wasn’t excited, as the packaging is so much fun & makes for such great conversation starter as all the beauty & fashion obsessed girls love it!

My thoughts

I’m really impressed with the quality of the lip products! The matte liquid lipstick stays put through the whole morning and needs only a top up after lunch. I was sent a beautiful pinky nude Lip Lights Matte Liquid Lipstick in Rue Lagerfeld* which will work on all skin tones. There’s plenty other shades to choose from too! I'm very much tempted by the juicy red! Priced at £22 it sits firmly within lower luxury price point. The packaging features a mirror and a light so you can top up on the go whatever you’re doing. I instantly fell in love with Lip Lights Gloss in Tango*, which smells and tastes lovely, has a very juicy finish and isn’t too sticky. It lasts surprisingly well too. I’m not normally a fan of glosses as you know, but been dabbing in shiny finishes lately so this is a perfect addition to my collection! Is it worth £22 price point? Formula wise, I don’t think any lip gloss is, but this one’s really moisturising plus the packaging is truly something else! I’m yet to use the Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo Lip Balm* (also available in metallic pink here)  as I have couple on the go right now but I love the packaging a lot so it’s proudly displayed on my vanity. Isn’t it the cutest??? I know Karl’s designs may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I really like them!

The true fun starts with the eyeliners, which feature a very precise tip, ultra black finish & Karl branded stamp on the other side. My favourite is Choupette Beauty Stamp* because of my love of cats! Both liner and stamp ends are very precise. If you like your makeup to be original, simply stamp the kitty design on your brow bone or perhaps repeatedly on your temple, then top up with some glitter and highlighter for ultra-modern festival look? I’ve come up with a cute look & will share it on my Instagram soon, so follow me now not to miss out! The formula stays put for 8 hours on my oily lids. If you want to prolong the life of it, I recommend setting the eyeliner with some translucent powder and going over it again. This does a trick for me if I need my lines to be sharp all night long

I was intrigued to see fibre mascara set in the collection. I’ve only ever tried one before from the infamous MLM company, so I was very interested to see ModelCo’s version. Chanel and Karl’s own brand fashion show makeup ofter features over the top lashes, so having a mascara that achieves that isn’t a surprise. Fibre Lash Brush-on False Lashes* set includes Lash Extension Mascara and separate fibres tube. You start with mascara, then lightly apply fibres and repeat until your last coat of mascara to set when you reached the finish you prefer. If you have sensitive eyes, ensure you only apply fibres at the ends so there’s no fallout into your eyes. It takes few tries to perfect it but the finish is brilliant! If you like your lashes to be dramatic but rather not wear falsies, this is definitely for you. I recommend around 2-3 coats for a maximum impact yet natural voluminous finish. Priced at £32.

Now onto the firm favourite of mine, the chic and functional handbag hero, the Karl Buki* is great for bronzer/powder top ups throughout the day. Soft bristles aren’t too stiff or dense and give powder products a very natural, almost airbrushed finish. The design is brilliant too, don’t you think? Not the cheapest and total novelty, but I really love it, so sue me! Lol. I always get so many questions about it!

Overview & wishlist

I’m pleasantly surprised with Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo collaboration as both packaging and formulas are high quality. Do you pay for novelty and Karl’s brand? Absolutely but since when has this stopped a true beauty junkie enthusiast? I appreciate the design as it’s all very well made and will liven up any handbag/vanity! There are few more products I may treat myself to, the matte liquid lippy in Iconic Red and the most stunning Luxe Highlight & Glow powder highlighter in Opal are simply calling my name!!!
