I’m sure you’ve seen it all around Instagram. Lash serums have been ‘in fashion’ for quite some time but are they worth the hassle. I’m almost 3 months in, so was it worth it? Let’s chat all pros and cons!
Before - the story of my lashes
Ok, let’s say it as it is, I’ve never had lashes. I mean, I’ve had them but they were weak, short and barely visible. My natural lashes are blonde so that doesn’t help but even with mascara, I couldn’t really say, I was ever satisfied with them. They were also weak and I often lost a lot even during the gentlest cleansing routine. They sucked!
NYK1 Lash Force Serum - intro
The lash serum is dermatologically & ophthalmologist tested and promises to deliver stronger and longer lashes over time with twice daily continuous use. You apply it twice a day to the base of your lashes, just like a liquid eyeliner. The liner bit is super fine and applies just enough product. For your morning needs - I apply it after eye cream and allow min 5 minutes before makeup. Usually, it’s 10-15 minutes really, but 5 minutes is enough. The formula has been perfected to stimulate the growth but also to protect the follicle so your lashes grow longer and a little thicker.
Let’s talk ingredients
The short ingredient list is usually preferable whatever you choose and NYK1 Lash Force doesn’t disappoint:
Full ingredient list: Aqua, Disodium Phosphate, Cellulose Gum, Citric Acid, Swertia Japonica Extract, Panax Ginseng Extract, Biotin, Sodium Chloride, Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Benzalkonium Chloride
Disodium Phosphate - inorganic salts used as buffering agents.
Cellulose Gum - a natural ingredient derived from plants, commonly used as a thickening and film-forming agent.
Citric Acid/Sodium Chloride - used as preservatives.
Swertia Japonica Extract - promotes hair growth and reduces hair thinning.
Panax Ginseng Extract - classified as emollient with hair conditioning properties.
Biotin - commonly used in hair conditioners as moisturising agents.
Vitamin B2- known as Riboflavin and used as a protection against free radicals and also nourishes hair follicles.
Benzalkonium Chloride - commonly used in formulations of hair products, it protects the formula from unwanted microorganisms growth in the finished product.
The highlighted ingredients act as actives in the NYK1 Lash Force formula and allow the product to work its magic on your lashes.
Why I love it
I’ve seen initial results after a couple of weeks of using the lash serum. Initially, I’ve noted a reduction in lash loss. After a month or so, my lashes appeared stronger and a little longer but the true results came after 2.5 months or so. My lashes are longer, I no longer hate on every mascara around! I don’t know if I see a huge difference in their thickness, it’s there but maybe not as prominent as the length! My lashes are now visible! I’m sure the results would be even more spectacular if my own lashes weren’t so weak, to begin with, and I’m looking forward to continuous use. I’d recommend it to anyone who’s self-conscious of their lashes! If your own lashes are weak and short - YOU NEED IT!
Cons
Whilst it’s not something I've experienced myself, despite my extremely sensitive eyes, there are reviews out there who claim increased sensitivity. I think this really depends on how your skin and eyes react to the ingredients. Personally, I noted no increased sensitivity or my eyes watering. In fact and this may be completely unrelated, my eyes haven’t been as watery as usual over the last few months. I don’t think it has anything to do with this serum, but who knows?
Price vs Hype
Good lash serums aren’t the cheapest, in fact, I dare you to find a budget option. There’s a new one by L’Oréal, which is more budget-friendly, however, I can vouch for results. With NYK1 Lash Force you’re getting 8ml of the product for £34.95 which is designed to last over 3 months with twice daily use. Not the cheapest, but the results are pretty spectacular. I never quite believed it would work but now I’m seeing the results, I don’t think I’ll ever stop using this! If it works, it works, am I right? Hype wise, I absolutely love it and can’t wait to see if more prolonged use, gives me even better results!
