Lime Crime Venus XL II review with unfiltered swatches |
I’ve heard of Lime Crime of course, but I was never that drawn to their stuff because of lack of availability in the UK. But ever since their launch on our shores, I was drawn to trying their cult formula eyeshadows. I tried to stay away for the longest time until Lime Crime Venus XL II Palette came about. I mean look at her! I’ve been playing with it for over a month now and I’m finally ready to share my thoughts.
The packaging is sturdy and I love the pale pink background on which the Venus is printed. If I was being really picky, I’d probably make it a little leaner. The packaging houses 18 shadows and a nicely sized mirror. There’s no brush.

Shadows come in 4 finishes: matte, metallic, foil & sheer iridescent topper. I was a little worried when I first swatched them, as the shades didn’t feel as soft and buttery as I’m used to. In fact, they felt slightly too powdery at first. Thankfully this does not affect the performance on the eye even in the slightest as all are pigmented, transfer to the lid well and even foils/glitters work as well with a brush as with the finger - I know, I’m shocked too. In fact, blending is a dream, but shades don’t disappear nor go patchy. Mattes apply well and you can top them up and apply over other shades as well. There’s virtually no fall out either!
There’s a variety of colours, mostly pinks and browns combined with light greens. It’s quite an unusual combination and works very well. As shades mix pretty well, you are able to create unique colours as well.

The earthy tones of the palette work very well when creating simple daytime eye but perform as well with more intense and extra evening looks. I’ve waited a long time to try Lime Crime but I’m a convert now. Is Venus XL II worth £56 it would set you by? Abso-fucking-lutely!
