2 hydrating serums worth your money

Serum is such an important step in a skincare routine, as it’s that one product that if made right, really delivers it’s acting ingredients deeper than moisturiser or oil ever could. So sit back, relax and let me tell you about 2 fantastic hydrating serums that help my skin overcome harsh winter dehydration.

Medik8 HYdr8 B5 Intense

It’s not that Medik8 Hydr8 B5 Intense (RPR £55 for 30ml) didn’t do it for me anymore. I absolutely loved the stuff. Admittedly it’s one of the best hydrating serums I’ve ever used. The silky yet watery texture provides an immerse hydration whatever the circumstances. It really transformed my skin when I needed it most: when winter came I was in a bad state for a bit. Dehydration hit and nothing was working until I re-introduced this little bottle back into my routine. A combination of Hyaluronic Acid, Natural Moisturising Factors (NMF), Panthenol (Vit. B5), urea and other moisturising compounds kept my skin looking plumped and at the same time working hard at stabilising the skin barrier. And it lasted for an absolute ages given that I’m far from saving when it comes to the amounts I put on my face. 3-4 small drops are plenty, but I ended up using more than half a pipette to drench the face in much needed moisture. Yes, it’s pricey, but will last you for a long time. And if you haven’t tried Medik8 yet, it’s a perfect introduction to the brand known for their magical serums.

SVR Laboratories Ampoule Hydra with Vitamin B3

Enter a relative newbie - SVR Ampoule Hydra* (RPR £30 for 30ml), only a week or so into testing but I really enjoy the texture and formula so far. Again, like its predecessor, it has that silky and watery feel that my often parched skin craves. Rich in Niacinamide, an underrated hero in skincare world, a vitamin B3 can improve uneven skin tone, soften it, plump out lines and wrinkles. Combined with 3 weighs of Hyaluronic Acids and Glycerin and with only 12 ingredients in total, the formula soothes and hydrates instantly. I can’t wait to see more long term results! If your skin is dry and tight, the release and feeling of hydration is instant. Skin feels taken care off and plump after a few small drops. I feel like you need even less product, which is always welcome. It’s already almost half the price than the Medik8 one, so if it lasts even longer, then a value for £'s spent is incredible. If there ever was a one step serum for dehydrated and sensitive skin in need of plumping, it’s this one. I tend to use it on its own or as a first serum, a carrier for stronger stuff like SVR Ampoule Lift with Retinol* (review coming soon) in the evening, or Medik8 C-Tetra (read more about it here) in the morning. Whatever your preference, it works great both on its own or combined with other actives. I find that it subdued any side effects retinol or stronger vitamin C can have on a skin, especially if you're rather sensitive!

Out with the old, in with the new: hyaluronic acid based serums

Ok, not gonna lie, I’m pretty damn pleased with myself RN. I’ve been so good with finishing up skincare before opening something new, especially when something as exciting as SVR Laboratories Ampoule Hydra arrived on my vanity. Trust me, it took everything  not to open it ASAP. And it was worth the wait, as it gave me an idea for a blog series where I review an empty and give my first impressions on the newbie replacing it, so look out for more in a due time!
