Winter months call for something a bit different. Colder weather, wind and central heating are only a few factors responsible for our skin begging for more than ultralight gels. Enter rich moisturisers even the driest skin will appreciate. Here are the top 6 winter creams for every budget!

Beauty Bay Thirst Class Rich Moisturiser | £7 for 90ml

Affordable, deliciously thick and moisturising, it may just be the perfect pick from Beauty Bay’s own skincare range. Formulated with my favourite ingredient: colloidal oatmeal to soothe often irritated when dehydrated skin with oat lipid deliciously rich in protein building Ceramides to repair lipid barrier and help skin retain moisture. Affordable hero moisturiser everyone should try, not just in winter! Available from Beauty Bay.

Weleda Skin Food (original) | £8.25-£13.50 for 30ml/75ml

A cult holy grail that will transform even the driest and rough skin. Winter must-have for days when not even the thickest moisturiser can cut it. And this one’s rich alright? Packed with occlusives like lanolin and beeswax and topped with glycerin sweet almond oil along with others, the moisturiser creates a comforting barrier between needy skin and drying and damaging environmental stressors. Think of it as a one-step warrior against water loss. And did I mention the joyous citrus scent? I tend to use 30ml tube every year, as the last step defence against dryness! Available from Boots, Cult Beauty, Feel Unique, Look Fantastic and Superdrug.

Pixi Rose Ceramide Cream* | £24 for 50ml

To date, a favourite of mine from Pixi Beauty, this deliciously scented rich cream has been in and out of my routine for years. Packed with probiotics, long before they were talked about everywhere, repairing and water retaining Ceramides and nourishing Rose Flower Oil, this is a winner in my books! I must be on my 4th tube by now... Available from Boots, Marks & Spencer and Pixi Beauty UK.

Temple SPA Double Cream* | £38 for 50ml

Ultra-rich and melting on the skin, the staple cream deeply moisturises even very dry skin and restores it to a comfortable level of moisture. Jam-packed with skin-nourishing Avocado Oil, replenishing Vitamin E, plumping Echinacea along with olive, red pepper, horse chestnut and blackberry it works wonders to rehydrate, leaving skin deliciously dewy and plump. Available here.

Sunday Riley Ice Ceramide Moisturising Cream £20-£60 for 15g/50g

The marzipan-scented intensively moisturising cream combines the powers of moisture barrier-friendly Ceramides and Vitamin F to relieve dryness and dehydration and strengthen the skin while actively fighting against water loss. The rich and thick texture glides on and melts oh so beautifully leaving you with glowing, hydrated and plump skin. My new hero! Available from Cult Beauty and Space NK.

Algenist Genius Sleeping Collagen* | £88 for 60ml

The last step in the skincare routine has never felt complete without the rich layer of Algenist’s thick cream! Ready to combat thirsty skin overnight, the formula packs a punch of Alguronic Acid, Glycerin, Rice Extract, Amino Acids and Ceramides to re-hydrate, deeply moisturise, calm and plump outlines in one go! The healthy moisture barrier must-have, this ultra-rich butter-like formula takes a little body heat to warm up. You only need a little too, though I’ve been known to overindulge from time to time (read: every single night!). Available from Cult Beauty, Feel Unique, Look Fantastic, Space NK and QVC UK.
