New in budget-friendly hair care feat. Garnier, Hairboss & TRESemme

It’s fair to say we have all become amateur hairdressers by now (no, don’t cut your own hair, promise me!) and now drugstore brands are responding with many incredible launches bringing professional haircare at budget prices to our local high street shops and online retailers. Haircare is the new skincare, so let’s have a look at some of the more exciting ranges being launched recently.

Watermelon meets fine hair

Since Garnier PR seems to ignore my messy head, I went out and bought the whole (I think!) of their new Watermelon range. Did I need them? I’m swimming in shampoo and conditioner, so no, didn’t need to buy any, but at the same time, watermelon & fine hair in the same sentence got my attention. Adding to their incredible (that Banana mask is so worth the hype!!!) Ultimate Blends range, Garnier is coming for our wallets yet again with the fine hair-friendly, light in texture, and a quite delightful Plumping Hair Food Watermelon Shampoo and corresponding Conditioner and Hair Food 3-in-1 Mask. I looooove me their Banana mask and use it over a lot of more expensive luxury hair masks, so I wanted to try more. If you’re into watermelon scent, you will love this. If you have hair with tendencies to look flat, you will love this. And if you get it (like yours truly!) in a half-price promo, you will love this even more. You can’t go wrong with a set of haircare for less than £12 right? Priced at £6 each for shampoo and conditioner and £6.99 for the mask (currently 2 for £8 in Boots, 1/3 off in Superdrug and 3 for 2 on Look Fantastic), it’s affordable and makes hair washing fun. Hair is glossy and manageable after using and has a little lift to it since it’s not weighed down with heavy formulas. The whole range is best suited to non-damaged hair, so I tend to apply the mask on the scalp and top while adding a Banana mask to the lengths and ends for some extra nourishment. Overall, I can’t complain, but the Banana range seems to be unchallenged when it comes to Garnier Ultimate Blends still. Fancy some lift to your hair?

Hair bossing my way to a post lockdown mane

Delivering salon-quality extensive haircare range at a fraction of salon prices, Lisa Shepherd’s The Hair Boss is a fantastic new brand you should look into if you’re into fun and innovative formulas and professional results achieved easily at home. There are pre-shampoo treatments, shampoos like The Virgin Hair Shampoo* aimed at non-coloured hair, masks and styling, and aftercare - so much so that anyone can find a new fave in The Hair Boss range. I have a few faves already, like the Blonde Brightener Detox Spray* - the one if you want to care for your scalp before shampoo. In 20 mins it works to cleanse your scalp and hair from all the build-up from using hair products to give you that truly cleansed experience. Another goodie, The Scalp Soothing Toner* is beautiful when applied straight onto towel-dried hair and scalp. It cools and leaves hair so much more shiny and scalp more healthy and hydrated. There's more of course, but I have a very special post on a fantastic treatment that you can do at home to refresh your hair and make you look and feel like you’ve just left your favourite hairdresser - and it doesn’t involve bleaching, dying or doing other things to your hair we really shouldn’t do at home. Watch this space! I’ve also seen a brand new mask in the range, and now I want it. Who’s with me? And in the meantime, if anything grabs your attention, you can check out The Hair Boss in Superdrug with 3 for 2 promo going on at the time of this post.

Balancing act

TRESemme’s new launch is exclusive to Superdrug and brings us a new Purify and Hydrate range based on Hyaluronic Acid and White Clay aimed at those who may have issues with greasy hair. Who hasn’t? Am I right? Unlike other haircare aimed at oily scalp I’ve used before, neither the pre-shampoo scalp scrub nor shampoo and conditioner leave my hair feeling rough and straw-like, instead of like skincare, the range concentrates on the balancing act. You start with a good scrub, which is one of those steps we rarely think about but at the same time as important as exfoliating your face, so you can rid your scalp and hair from build up and allow it to grow stronger, followed by balancing shampoo and finished with a moisturising yet light conditioner for a healthier hair that doesn’t require washing every day. I’m a big fan of the scrub so far, and shampoo also does wonders to my quite damaged mane (yes the years of bleach and toner aren’t that good for hair, who knew), while conditioner helps with detangling and further nourishing the hair. And let’s not forget that similar scalp scrubs are after a lot more pricey, think £30+ range, so if there’s one product you ought to try, it’s the scrub for sure! Fancy a bit of that? You can shop the whole range here.
