Sick day skincare |
I’ve had a bad cold all last week and it made me re-think my skincare routine (and life in general lol). Anything with even a teeny tiny bit of denatured alcohol felt like lighting it on fire. My skin was super dehydrated, felt almost hard to touch on and around the nose and the cheeks and with the area reddened and ultra-sensitive. Enter skincare. Thankfully I was able to switch a couple of products around and came up with a super delicate routine for those sick days when all you want to do is stay in bed, watch Netflix and compare your common cold to a plague. And the most important thing? It’s all available online with a next day delivery option, so you can stay in your comfy pj's and wait for your postman to judge your red nose and messy hair!
Double cleanse for ultra-sensitive skin.
A little of Nude Perfect Cleanse Nourishing Cleansing Oil goes a long way and 4 pumps do a trick for me. It gets rid of makeup and is super delicate on eyes and skin. A combination of jojoba and meadowfoam oil deeply moisturise and help retain the hydration. Super rich in Omega 6 & 9 it combats dehydration and protects against environmental changes such as premature ageing. I followed with my all time fave Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel*. Its formula melts away the remaining of makeup (or sweat and grime after laying in bed all day!) and it’s also very delicate and nourishing. It’s only mildly exfoliating thanks to pumpkin enzymes and that’s all I could take at the time of inflamed and super sensitive skin. It’s rich in detoxifying MSM (a form of Sulphur), vitamins C, A, E, B2 and Magnesium, as well as Omega 6 (Starflower Oil). Most importantly it’s super gentle and left my skin moisturised and soft.
A little mask never killed anyone.
That I know of ;) I was super pleased to have found REN Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask in my stash. It’s only a sample (10ml) but should last me for 3-5 uses! Ultra rich and the buttery formula goes on smoothly and is super gentle (I didn’t even flinch when applied around the nose!). In 15 mins my skin almost drenched it out of all the moisture and felt soothed. Thanks to plant and seed oils it’s ultra moisturising. Panthenol helps skin’s recovery and relieves key sensitivity factors. Shea butter is present, but it hasn’t clogged my skin, so good news all around.

No to puffy eyes |
Relieve the heat.
High fever and sweating is horrible, isn’t it? Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist* (read more about it here) isn’t only soothing but also refreshes and helps the skin retain the moisture. I have a feeling it’ll be with me forever, because why improve perfection?
Does anybody else get a fever swelling around the eyes/lids? I swear I look like I’m sporting a black eye except without the purple! Christian Bretton Ice Stick* (click here, if you want to know how it helps me look wide awake) helps to relieve the puffiness and works instantly too! I don’t know what I’ve done without it!
Drink up.
When my skin’s like Sahara I need all the moisture I can get. There’s a reason Merumaya only does one serum. The life-changing magic of Iconic Youth Serum (read all about it here) is truly irreplaceable when my skin’s in need of deep hydration. It detoxifies, relieves inflammation, evens out skin tone and texture and drenches skin’s in hydration! Of so super gentle and soft butter like formula goes on smoothly and just does the job!
Dermalogica Smoothing Cream* is quite new in my routine but already proving itself! Lecithin () moisturises deeply while Aloe Gel, Mallow, Cucumber and Arnica help soothe, hydrate and nourish. Thanks to paraben, artificial fragrances/dyes free formula, it’s super gentle on the inflamed and enraged skin. It’s also aimed at combination skin and helps balance the moisture which means no Pore clogging ingredients. One for the books!
Quite new to me is also Sk:n Brightening & Firming Eye Cream*. Creamy yet light formula sinks in almost instantly and provides a relief to my dry and sensitive skin under eyes and balances my oily eyelids at the same time. I’ve used it non stop for a good few weeks now and noticed that my eyeshadow stays on better these days. How I noticed you may ask? Well, the silly, overworked and knackered me forgot to put a primer on one morning and only noticed it halfway through a smokey eye. I didn’t have time to re-apply and a miracle happened. After 10+ hours my eyeshadow was fine, no creasing and the only thing that comes to mind is my switch to this not so little (20ml!!) eye cream.

Bye bye dark circles |
Pop a pill and drink some more.
Ok, I’m not a health advisor, far from it. However, I love a good diet supplement and I’ve been popping 2 capsules a day of HUM Daily Cleanse*. Green algae and detox herbs help rid my body and skin from toxins and my body usually goes through a lot. I’m on pain managing meds every day so when I fall ill, my body defences aren’t great. Detoxing is a great way to ensure my liver, bowel, kidneys, lungs and even lymphatic system keep as healthy as humanly possible. I also tried to increase the intake of water during my cold, ensuring I drink my 3 litres a day.

I sincerely hope you count yourselves amongst the lucky ones and didn’t catch the terrible Aussie flu we’ve been exposed to here in the UK! With the rain and cold it’s easy to catch a virus or a common cold, so the main thing is to try and stay healthy. A good diet full of fruits (plentiful of Vit C) will help your body natural defences and great skincare will allow your skin to recover faster and keep the dehydration at bay.

I agree! I find that if I at least make an effort to feel human, somehow I do :) x
DeleteI'm wondering how many people had the actual fly over Christmas - it's a real bug bear of mine when people say they have the flu when actually, it's a cold!
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm really ill, it's all about soothing and calming products - Queen Of Hungary Mist is definitely one of them!
Hope you're feeling better! xx

Oh I think we’re similar in that aspect. What annoys if if people claim one headache a year as a chronic migraine. Unless you’re dying at 300 days a year, you’re most likely fine lol.
DeleteHave you tried this REN mask? I’ll be treating myself to full size once I’m down with the current content of my mask shelfie. It’s so soothing it’s unreal :) x
So many fell ill over Christmas, me and my whole family were down with a cold too! I do adore anything REN and Dermalogica, can't go wrong with either.

Oh no that’s sound like a cold I’ve had. I must have infected at least a good 10 people who came in contact with me. I felt like submitting myself to a disease control centre, it was highly contagious. Thankfully I’m slowly getting better as it’s ran its course :) x
DeleteI love that REN mask, i have a small size of it too and used it for the first time last week. Hope you've recovered from your cold now!

Let's hope we don't get too many of those. There's so many I want to try. I'd want them all!

This is perfect timing as I'm not too well! The Oskia cleanser always helps perk up my skin
